Garth Tander put the Holden Racing Team back on top in the first of this weekend's V8 Supercars races in Townsville, taking his and his squad's first victory since Adelaide in March. Saturday verdict over diffuser issue
Formula 1 teams will be informed on Saturday morning about whether the FIA intends to take any further action over the off-throttle blown diffuser issue, after controversy erupted on the eve of the British Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner and McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh clashed in public at an official FIA press conference at Silverstone over concessions that have been given to engine manufacturers to ensure their reliability is not hit by the ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers that is coming into force this weekend. Whitmarsh was unhappy that a technical directive issued by the FIA on Friday morning left the way open for the Renault-powered teams - which include Red Bull Racing ? to use 50 per cent of throttle blowing while the drivers were braking.

Silverstone bosses hope to sign off plans for a major redevelopment plan of the home of the British Grand Prix on Friday, as they continue a push to find investors. With the second phase of Silverstone's redevelopment - focused around the new �28 million 'wing' pits and paddock complex - now complete, attention is shifting to a wider update that will include hotels, a new kart track, music arenas, car showrooms and experience centres. The board of Silverstone Circuit hopes to approve the scheme at a meeting ahead of the British Grand Prix, before it is then sent to the local authorities over the next few weeks for approval.

Will Power jumped to the top of the times at the end of the second IndyCar Series Friday practice session in Toronto. The Penske driver's last-gasp 1m00.558s lap saw him depose Ganassi's Scott Dixon by 0.1075 seconds - though the Australian suggested that his burst of pace was only due to a late switch to fresh tyres. Dixon's team-mate Dario Franchitti was next up, 0.4s off the pace.

Boullier calls for end to diffuser row
Renault team principal Eric Boullier hopes Formula 1 teams can draw a line under the row over blown diffusers when they meet later today - despite senior sources saying they are pessimistic a solution will be found. Formula 1 technical chiefs and team bosses are set to meet ahead of the British Grand Prix to decide whether they support the ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers being ditched. The FIA has offered to revert the rules back to how they were at the European Grand Prix providing there is unanimous support

M-Sport revealed two new Ford Fiesta rally cars on Thursday, completing a five-stage ladder from national rallying to the World Rally Championship. Alain Menu has taken pole for tomorrow's opening World Touring Car Championship race in Porto, leading yet another Chevrolet 1-2-3 in qualifying. Huff hunts down Muller for victory
Rob Huff has taken a dramatic win in the second World Touring Car race around the streets of Porto after closing down a large gap to pass Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller. Muller had taken the lead from polesitter Stefano d'Aste on lap three and set about building an advantage while Huff tried to find his own way past the Wiechers-Sport BMW. He got past a lap later, however by then Muller was already 2.5 seconds down the road

Mike Rockenfeller insists that his back row grid position for the DTM race at the Norisring has nothing to do with the after-effects of his horrific accident at Le Mans. Nigel Melker has been declared the winner of the first F3 Euro Series race of the weekend at the Norisring after eight drivers were deemed to have gone too fast under yellow flags. The Mucke Motorsport driver finished third on the road behind Signature team-mates Laurens Vanthoor and Marco Wittmann. Magnussen secures double pole
Kevin Magnussen claimed the first pole positions of his British Formula 3 career with two stunning late laps in today's qualifying session at the Nurburgring. The Dane, who also set the pace in free practice yesterday, produced a 1m53.311s best on his penultimate lap of qualifying to top the times, before setting a time less than a tenth slower on his final tour to claim the other pole on offer. His Carlin team-mate Carlos Huertas will line-up alongside the Dane on the front row of the grid for tomorrow's 40-minute feature race, having set the pace until Magnussen's late flourish, but will start only fifth for today's first race on account of his second best time

Dani Pedrosa ended Mugello practice relatively confident about his fitness for the rest of the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Yamaha will not test the first version of its 2012 MotoGP bike until after the Czech Grand Prix in August. This week the iRacing.com World Championship Series Road Racing (iWCSRR) visits The Brickyard, aka The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, for the tenth race in the 18 race season. After the most recent event at Sebring, we have a wide-open championship battle. Klaus Kivek�s, Hugo Luis and Greger Huttu are all within 18 points of each other when you take into consideration the two “drop” races everyone is allowed. What’s more, fourth-placed Jesse Nieminen is only 39 points out of the lead. Half-way through the season it is anybody?s guess who will bring home the title.
