Horner still hopeful on Webber deal

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner hopes that the fresh team orders row with Mark Webber at Silverstone does not hurt the chances of the squad renewing its contract with the Australian. Webber was left fuming at the British Grand Prix when the team instructed him to hold position behind his team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the closing stages of the race. However, despite repeated calls from the pitwall, Webber ignored the instructions and continued to fight Vettel until the chequered flag - although ultimately failing to get past

Saturday verdict over diffuser issue

Formula 1 teams will be informed on Saturday morning about whether the FIA intends to take any further action over the off-throttle blown diffuser issue, after controversy erupted on the eve of the British Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner and McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh clashed in public at an official FIA press conference at Silverstone over concessions that have been given to engine manufacturers to ensure their reliability is not hit by the ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers that is coming into force this weekend. Whitmarsh was unhappy that a technical directive issued by the FIA on Friday morning left the way open for the Renault-powered teams - which include Red Bull Racing ? to use 50 per cent of throttle blowing while the drivers were braking.

Silverstone plans major upgrade

Silverstone bosses hope to sign off plans for a major redevelopment plan of the home of the British Grand Prix on Friday, as they continue a push to find investors. With the second phase of Silverstone's redevelopment - focused around the new 28 million 'wing' pits and paddock complex - now complete, attention is shifting to a wider update that will include hotels, a new kart track, music arenas, car showrooms and experience centres. The board of Silverstone Circuit hopes to approve the scheme at a meeting ahead of the British Grand Prix, before it is then sent to the local authorities over the next few weeks for approval.

Will Power jumped to the top of the times at the end of the second IndyCar Series Friday practice session in Toronto. The Penske driver's last-gasp 1m00.558s lap saw him depose Ganassi's Scott Dixon by 0.1075 seconds - though the Australian suggested that his burst of pace was only due to a late switch to fresh tyres. Huff hunts down Muller for victory

Rob Huff has taken a dramatic win in the second World Touring Car race around the streets of Porto after closing down a large gap to pass Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller. Muller had taken the lead from polesitter Stefano d'Aste on lap three and set about building an advantage while Huff tried to find his own way past the Wiechers-Sport BMW. He got past a lap later, however by then Muller was already 2.5 seconds down the road

Menu flies in Porto practice

Alain Menu broke the record for the fastest touring car lap around Porto's Circuito da Boavista in today's opening World Touring Car Championship practice session. The Swiss driver's 2m07.068s comfortable eclipsed the 2m09.026s produced by Chevrolet team-mate Rob Huff in testing yesterday, which had also been a record. The quicker times are largely the product of the track having been widened and, in places, resurfaced since the championship's last visit

The weather may not exactly have fitted the occasion, but Bruno Spengler made light of a rain-shortened DTM race at the Norisring to take the race victory, championship lead and his best Rankings spot to date in one fell swoop. Rain was the big challenge at the famous German circuit, but Spengler led the whole race aside from his pitstops, denying his Mercedes team-mate Jamie Green a fourth consecutive victory at the track

iRacer Profile: Bill Brown

For a self-described “old, broke, washed-up, wanna-be racer,” Bill Brown isn’t doing too badly. The 30-something Floridian holds-down top ten positions in Division One of both the iRacing.com Street Stock and SK Modified Series and, at the time of this writing, stands P15 in the NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Series, again in Division One. And while he’s not an imminent threat to knock Klaus Kiveks, Hugo Luis, Greger Huttu and Jesse Nieminen from top spots in the iRacing World Championship Series Road Racing, the Panama City resident did collect a Mazda MX5 win at Lime Rock last season and recently followed that up with a fifth place finish in an NVIDIA Cup race at Okayama International Circuit. All this, as Brown notes in his profile, for less than he used [...]
